Building Green

At J.W. York Homes we have made a commitment to building responsibly. We will continue to look for better methods and products to make our homes more efficient and reduce our impact on the environment.

Conserving Energy

We are proud to announce we have recently partnered with ENERGY STAR and made a commitment to qualify 100% of our new homes with this designation. These homes are at least 15% more efficient than a standard code built home and are more typically 20-30% more efficient. Some features of these homes include effective insulation, tight construction and duct work, high performance windows, sealed crawl spaces, radiant barriers, and efficient heating and cooling equipment. We are also using energy saving appliances and CFL light bulbs come standard in our homes. We currently have completed 12 Energy Star homes in the last couple of years.

Conserving Water

We are currently installing many water saving fixtures and appliances in our homes. Water saving toilets at 1.28gpf or better can save up to 4,000 gallons and $90 per year in water bills. Water saving lavatory faucets at 1.5gpm saving 500 gallons a year in a typical home. These products typically come with the WaterSense label.

Material selections

We are currently identifying and using materials that are long lasting, produced locally, and contain recycled content. One example is the fiber cement siding product we are using on all our new construction. This product is manufactured less than 90 miles from Athens, contains 50% recycled content, and comes with a lifetime warranty.

Recycling

We are currently recycling construction waste. We have partnered with a company who is able to recycle all of our scrap non pressure treated lumber, drywall, brick, concrete block, and asphalt shingles.

Advanced Conservation

We have had the opportunity to implement solutions such as rain water collection, geothermal hvac systems, sealed crawl spaces, and we are currently working on our first solor installation. We are also able to EarthCraft certify our new construction homes upon request.
